The Robotics Repository
based on Łukasiewicz - PIAP resources

In December 1959 the Statute of Comecon was adopted. Its preamble stated, among other things, that the governments of the member states were determined „to continue developing comprehensive economic cooperation based on the consistent implementation of the international socialist division of labour in the interest of building socialism and communism in their countries and of securing lasting peace throughout the world.
The development of automation equipment designed to work together and to be used in ever larger systems, including industrial processes, called for a systems approach. The Comecon member countries developed the Universal International System of Automatic Monitoring, Regulation and Control (URS). This activity began in 1960 in one of the sections of the Comecon Standing Commission for Machine Building. The work covered technical, coordination and standardisation tasks.
At the same time the POLMATIK National Automation and Measurement System was being developed in Poland as part of this cooperation. The system consisted of three parts – METRO for measurement, INTE for central processing and MOTO for actuation. More than 30 guides devoted to the individual subsystems were published during that period. The publisher was the Industrial Research Institute for Automation and Measurements “MERA-PIAP”.
