The Robotics Repository
based on Łukasiewicz - PIAP resources

Another initiative undertaken by the Industrial Research Institute for Automation and Measurements was to disseminate the knowledge gained in the course of scientific and research and development work by presenting scientific achievements in the form of published scientific monographs. The first monograph appeared in 1997.

Robotics in teaching

The Robotics Committee of the Polish Society of Measurement, Automatic Control and Robotics POLSPAR and the management of the Industrial Research Institute for Automation and Measurements PIAP proposed organising a special seminar devoted to the state of education in the field of Automatic Control and Robotics. The experience and results of ten years of this degree programme were collected and published in order to improve the quality of education at the turn of the 21st century.

Monitoring of thermal processes in the explosive atmosphere of grain industry facilities

The atmosphere of grain stores is characterised by a high concentration of dust from the stored grain. Where dust levels are high and an accidental temperature ignition occurs, an explosion may take place in the store. Between 1957 and 1990, 1,085 dust explosions were recorded in grain elevators in the United States, killing 640 people.

Monolithic amplifiers and a method for analysing electronic circuits based on them

The monolithic amplifier, also known as the operational amplifier, has become a basic component used to perform a wide range of electronic signal processing functions in measuring instruments and automation systems. Its applications include measuring amplifiers for low-level signals, circuits for processing and dynamically correcting analogue signals, reference signal sources, analogue signal isolators, and analogue-to-digital and digital-to-analogue converters.

Monitoring systems in grain elevators

Grain elevators contain zones at risk of explosion due to the presence of combustible dust. For this reason, the components of a monitoring system that work in direct contact with such an environment must meet the requirements for equipment intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. A lack of continuous grain temperature monitoring can lead to self-heating and, as a result, to spontaneous ignition and a dust explosion in the storage facility. The consequences of such events can be very serious both for people and for the technical infrastructure.

Explosion-proof monitoring systems in agricultural storage

Explosion safety in grain silos and elevators is a key element of the modern agri-food industry. Grain dust (especially fine flour fractions, feed deposits and maize dust) forms explosive mixtures with air that have a very low minimum ignition energy.

Immittance four-terminal (4T) networks in multi-parameter measurements

The monograph presents the theoretical basis and a description of the metrological properties of unconventional immittance solutions for preliminary signal conditioning circuits in indirect measurements of two or more mutually related parameters. Such signals occur at the outputs of multi-parameter objects under test and in the input circuits of intelligent instruments and measuring systems containing immittance sensors. For most of them, equivalent circuits in the form of LLS (lumped, linear, stationary) reciprocal and non-reciprocal networks with variable internal immittances can be used as models, generally with n terminals.

Pressure measurement. Selected problems in the design and manufacturing technology of measuring instruments

Under terrestrial conditions it is hard to imagine a situation in which pressure would not act on living and non-living matter. This fact is reflected in the scientific literature from the 17th century onwards. It is confirmed by an observation taken from a letter written by Evangelista Torricelli in 1664 to Michelangelo Ricci: „We live submerged at the bottom of an ocean of air, and we know from incontrovertible experiments that air has weight”. Ever since, interest in the phenomenon of pressure — in both its theory and its measurement methods — has been continuous.

Digital-to-analogue converter circuits for voltage, current and resistance and a method for their analysis

In an era dominated by microprocessor systems used to build electronic devices and systems for automation, measurement and testing, electronic digital-to-analogue converters are widely used. These converters translate the digital signals produced by microprocessor systems into analogue voltage, current or resistance values with high accuracy, using electronic analogue switches, sets of precision resistors, reference signal sources and linear circuits based on monolithic amplifiers.

Foresight for the Mazovia Province. Methodology, analyses and statistical data

The publication is the first in the „Foresight for the Mazovia Province” series and presents both the foresight process itself and its implementation in the Mazovia Province. The description of the process, based on activities actually carried out, is intended to make it easier to understand the essence of foresight and to conduct such work in the Mazovia Province and in other regions of Poland.

Foresight for the Mazovia Province. Monitoring and forecasting priority innovative technologies for the sustainable development of the Mazovia Province

The second report on the project „Monitoring and forecasting (foresight) of priority innovative technologies for the sustainable development of the Mazovia Province”, discussing in detail the stage of the expert survey conducted using the Delphi method.

The books below were produced under Commissioned Research Project PBZ-31-05 “Communication networks integrating manufacturing automation”, carried out by the Industrial Research Institute for Automation and Measurements PIAP and the Institute of Machine Technology and Automation of Wrocław University of Technology, with co-funding from the State Committee for Scientific Research. The project team was led by Prof. Jan Koch.

Communication networks in industrial applications – systems issues

The book discusses the technical aspects of communication networks. It presents the ISO/OSI Reference Model for Open Systems Interconnection and examples of open communication systems. It characterises electrical communication links, data transmission methods and data link layer protocols. Particular attention is paid to field, local and wide area computer networks. The book covers open communication system standards and transport and application layer protocols, as well as the architectures of communication networks used in automated manufacturing and industrial automation and the integration of heterogeneous computer networks. It closes with an example of a pilot CIM installation.

The structure and functional components of integrated manufacturing systems in mechanical technologies

Computer-integrated manufacturing systems are based on the CIM concept and use CAD/CAP/CAM systems, databases and PPC/SFC production planning and control systems. The book describes the NC/CNC machines and equipment used in CIM, together with the network communication standards, interfaces and protocols applied at the various levels of building and operating integrated manufacturing systems.
